The Fortress of Mimoyecques

The fortress of Mimoyecques

Also nicknamed “the cannon of London”, it is one of the most impressive buildings designed by Hitler, a few kilometers from the Two Capes. This completely underground base at Landrethun-le-Nord, in the locality of Mimoyecques, was used to install the V3 barrel. Like all weapons of retaliation “Vergelstungwaffe”, the V3 was to bomb England and turn the tide of World War II. The site was struck by the Royal Air Force July 6th 1944, using the giant ‘Tallboy’ bombs, ending a major threat to London and the Allies.
